The Hills or Baldwin Hills....THAT is the Question...
So, I hate to bring up race in this light and fluffy topic but here it goes: I’m a black female and for a while I didn’t think black people existed in "the hills"...at least not until I saw Baldwin Hills! I guess it’s around the corner from THE hills or something. I’m not exactly sure since I don’t hail from Los Angeles. Baldwin Hills is basically a cast of young-adults/teenagers who are kind of “well-off” and they also happen to be black. Although some of the “cast members” on the reality show suck at acting, the show still keeps my interest just as much as The Hills. They have basically the same guy drama and catty-ness as The Hills but the main difference (to me at least) is that Baldwin Hills has a little more depth. All the episodes don’t consist of “Like O-M-G, Justin Bobby was totally kissing that girl.” Some of the cast members on Baldwin Hills actually have serious issues that they deal with in the duration of the show. There’s also a new “black version” of The City called Harlem Heights. I feel the same way about Harlem Heights as I do The City and I will leave it at that. Baldwin Hills airs on BET but Season 3 ended this week. I hope that Season 4 is in the making!

Alexis Gray's Boot Made Me Blue :-(
American Idol Season 8 contestant, Alexis Gray, got the boot tonight. Alexis is a 21-year-old mom from Memphis, TN. This week, she was in the bottom two with Michael Sarver. I hate to admit it but I'm not a fan of his. I think he's a nice, respectful, and polite guy but I'm not impressed with his vocal abilities. I'm very disappointed that Alexis went home. She was my second favorite contestant and I expected her to make it to the Top 3. She has a raw, soulful sound that I ADORE! I really hope that someone signs her. If they don't they're definitely missing out. Oh well, I guess I'll have to move on. My personal top 3 (in no particular order) is now: Danny Gokey, Allison Iraheta, and Anoop Desai. And yes, I said Anoop Desai! I love that guy.

The United States of Tara: Comedic Take on Serious Disorder

United States of Tara is a sitcom about a middle-aged wife and mother of two who is living with dissociative identity disorder or DID. Tara has four different alters or personalities that pop-up during stressful situations. The alters include: T, Buck, Alice, and the newest alter who we’ve seen but we have yet to meet, named Gimme. T is a 16-year-old bad girl. She’s sexual, explicit, and somewhat of a troublemaker. She’s also the alter that sometimes helps Tara’s teenage daughter, Kate, get into some interesting dilemmas. Buck is a male alter. He’s the biker who’s always willing to get into a good wholesome bar fight and spread his manliness around. Alice on the other hand is the perfect housewife. She’s a very Godly, opinionated, well put together, neat and tidy woman. So far, Gimme, is “animalistic” and destructive. Tara also has a son named Marshall who is a kind of a geeky, responsible, nice kid, who likes boys. Kate is the complete opposite. The only similarity between Marshall and Kate is that Kate also likes boys…a lot! All the while, Tara’s sweet, loving husband Max is investigating Tara’s past to understand why she needs her alters in the first place. The last main character is Tara’s apathetic, vein sister Charmaine. She’s somewhat unlikeable at times but I’m sure we all know someone like her.
I think this show is innovative, original, funny, and well-written (thanks to Diablo Cody of Juno fame). I don’t know anyone with DID so I’m assuming that they aren’t normally in the same type of humorous predicaments that Tara is in. Although this show has comedic parts I do not think it makes light of DID. The writers make sure that the viewers see the quandaries that Tara and her family go through because of this disorder. The characters are relatable and the actors do a wonderful job playing their parts, especially Toni Collette (Tara) who plays 5 different characters. I thoroughly enjoy this show and would recommend it to anyone who doesn’t mind its explicit nature. You can catch it on Showtime on Sundays at 10 pm eastern. If you like cheating like me they show the next week’s episodes (meaning the one they will broadcast the next Sunday) on Showtime on Demand starting Sunday. You can also watch the entire first season so far on Showtime on Demand.

[Intro]
Today, within the last couple of hours, I had an epiphany. I have entirely too many opinions on entirely too many different subjects. What I don’t have is someone to rant to (at least not during the day). For some reason, my 2-year-old and 5-month-olds aren’t interested in what happened on the last episode of Gossip Girl.
This blog will hopefully give me a gateway to express the topics that are swimming around in my brain. I would also like to unite with people who can agree with me and even the “weirdo’s” that beg to differ (JK). I hope to have an audience that can enjoy the topics I choose and engage in conversation (agreeing or disagreeing). Feel free to enlighten me.
Hmm…I wonder if Charlotte had a fancy word for goodbye too…
